Please look out for our posters around your school. They should be up by Friday if all goes well. We look forward to your contributions to the Rice Drive!
UNIFEM Singapore is a non-profit group working towards Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality.
Our programs in Singapore and in Southeast Asia are designed to assist women in the region by providing access to education, health, economic independence and a life free of violence and abuse.
The Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (H.O.M.E.) is a registered society and charity that looks into the welfare and rights of migrant workers in Singapore. Its many tasks include providing food and shelter to destitute female and male migrant workers, conducting workshops for migrant workers on labour laws and legal rights and providing assistance to workers who have experienced abuse and injustice.
The Rice Drive
H.O.M.E. runs two shelters for women and men, most of whom are usually victims of exploitation. The shelter is currently running on a scarce supply of public donations. Should they run out, these workers will have no place to go to. The UNIFEM Rice Drive seeks to collect rice in order to aid H.O.M.E. in providing food for its residents. During week long stints at secondary and tertiary instituitions, booths will be set up for students and teachers to bring in cups of rice to be donated to H.O.M.E. A cup of rice may not seem like much, but it will go a long way. Be part of the Rice Drive today.
The Rice Drive at Raffles Girls' School is our pilot project.
